A 10-day festival held in Alton, Chawton and Selborne in Hampshire each year celebrating both Jane Austen, their local internationally-acclaimed writer, and a very interesting period of history, encouraging people to explore their cultural heritage.

July – August 2024: Charivari Agréable’s Oxford ‘Early Music by Candlelight’ Summer Festival 2024
Charivari Agréable’s annual summer early music festival consisting of 6 different recitals over 18 performances at Exeter College Chapel.
This ensemble specializes in the ingenious use of period instruments to produce ‘ravishing sonorities and full-bodied textures’ with ‘their powerful cohesion, warm sound, and their eloquent authority’. The group has ‘carved something of a niche for itself in imaginative and well-thought-out programming’; ‘its work is the fruit of both scholarly research and charismatic musicianship, a combination that puts it at the forefront of period-instrument ensembles’

Saturday the 13th of July 2024: Claudio Monteverdi Vespers of 1610
Our final concert of the season will be a performance of an undisputed joy-filled masterpiece by Claudio Monteverdi: his Vespers of 1610, which the choir has not performed for nearly fifty years! We shall again be partnered by the period instrument ensemble Charivari Agréable. At St Mark’s Church, Leamington Spa.

July – September 2024: The School for Scandal by Sheridan by the Royal Shakespeare Company, Stratford-upon-Avon
After Shakespeare but long before Bridgerton, there was The School for Scandal, Sheridan’s brilliantly biting comedy of manners in five acts. This new production — styled to the nines with period flair — promises an exuberant feast of big wigs and even bigger laughs.
1770s London, where the aristocracy’s morals have plunged lower than the necklines on the women’s gowns. The vicious Lady Sneerwell enjoys ruining reputations for pleasure, and her latest target is the young bachelor Charles Surface – why should this pretentious little rake inherit his uncle’s fortune? Together with Charles’ conniving brother Joseph, Sneerwell orchestrates an elaborate scheme of intrigue and infidelity that’s sure to ruffle all the right feathers — hopefully.

Friday the 13th – Sunday the 22nd of September 2024: The Jane Austen Festival Bath
The festival begins with our Regency Costumed Promenade; then throughout the 10 day event, we welcome visitors to enjoy events inspired by the timeless works of Jane Austen including: guided walks, costumed balls, theatrical performances, talks and much more!

Saturday the 19th of October 2024: The Autumntide Regency Ball
Join Laughing With Lizzie and Friends for a delightful evening of Regency Dancing, new and experienced dancers both welcome. A ‘Meryton Assembly’ style ball, which will take place in the gorgeous 17th Century Purley Barn near to Reading. Dance mistress Libby Curzon. Supper included.

Monday the 23rd of December 2024: Charivari Agréable Christmas by Candlelight
Award winning local Oxford period ensemble, Charivari Agréable will be giving their annual Christmas concert, performing a mix of early and modern Carols and Cantatas at Exeter College Chapel.

Saturday the 1st of March 2025: Leamington Spa Regency Ball 2025
Join us for a Regency Ball in the sumptuous surroundings of The Royal Pump Rooms in Leamington Spa and come and dance the night away to The Warleggan Village Band with caller Georgia Delve!
